GALESBURG — A ranking officer at the Galesburg Police Department was arrested Friday morning on theft and official misconduct charges.
Lt. Warren Anthony Riley Jr., 42, 1166 N. Prairie St., was booked at the Knox County jail at 10:22 a.m. on charges of theft over $300 but less than $10,000, a Class 3 felony, and official misconduct. Riley posted 10 percent of a $20,000 bond and was released.
Riley, who was hired in July 1990 and served as a third shift commander at the police department, resigned Thursday.
He will first appear in Knox County Circuit Court at 9 a.m. April 7, according to State’s Attorney John Pepmeyer.
A Class 3 felony is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
