Police: Officer collides with car after rolling stop sign

A Peoria police officer was cited for disregarding a stop sign after he rolled through one at about 2:30 a.m. Friday and collided with another vehicle. The officer and the driver of the other car were injured.

Officer Charles E. Rodgers, Jr., 24, was driving squad car No. 500 east on Antoinette Street at the intersection with Griswold Street when he slowed but did not come to a complete stop, according to the police report.

Rodgers said he did not see a car approaching northbound on Griswold before he collided with that vehicle. Lorraine Sephus, 52, of 2020 W. Ann St. was the driver.

Both drivers were taken to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, where they were treated and released.
